Carl Shutt got United off to a good start when he scored after hitting the inside of the post in the eighth minute. Imre Varadi was twice denied by fine saves and Left Back Scott Cam hit a thirty yard strike against an upright, before Varadi doubled United's lead in the fortieth minute. Richard Hepworth came on at Half Time in place of Joseph at Right back and he in turn was replaced after sixty minutes by Mel Sterland. Sterland had only been on the pitch four minutes when he got himself on the scoresheet when he headed United's fourth goal from a Dylan Kerr corner, Carl Shutt having scored their third four minutes earlier, when he headed home a Ray Wallace cross. Patrick O'Connell replaced Carl Shutt after seventy minutes and five minutes later Richard Hepworth replaced Mark Tinkler at Left Half. Imre Varadi completed the scoring when he latched onto a Gary Kelly pass to round the goalkeeper with fifteen minutes left on the clock.
